I owned two MIM basses, deluxe jazz bass 4, Mike Dirnt P-bass and one MIA Fender P-bass V. Both MIM basses were good/very good. The American Standard P-bass V (2008) model was better than the MIMs and worth the difference in price IMO. Due to financial hardship, I no longer own these basses.
Fender Jazz Bass vs. Precision Bass. A Jazz Bass typically has a thinner neck (17/16″ wide at the nut, compared to the Precision’s 13/4″), has two narrow, eight-polepiece pickups (instead of one on the Precision Bass) which deliver a more versatile tone (often described as richer in the midrange and treble).
Carrying the style and vibe of vintage Fender instruments, the five-string Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V will give you that nostalgic feeling with some useful modern updates. This maple 5-string comes with a 3-band active EQ for precise tonal shaping and Fender's patented dual-coil ceramic Noiseless pickups. These new models consist of Jazz and Precision basses – the latter with a PJ pickup configuration – with a five-string Jazz option also available. Retailing at $1,899.99/£1959 apiece, they occupy that tricky space at the top end of the mid-range price bracket. With that figure in mind, we’ll be expecting good things.
